If you’ve been following WoW news lately, you’ve probably heard the whispers about WoW Classic Plus — and 2026 is shaping up to be the year it finally stops being a rumor.
Here’s everything we know so far and what’s coming down the pipeline.
What Is Classic Plus?
Classic Plus (often called Classic+ or, more recently, WoW Classic 2.0) is Blizzard’s rumored project to create a new version of WoW Classic that diverges from the original expansion path. Instead of progressing through The Burning Crusade → Wrath → Cataclysm, Classic Plus would keep the Vanilla WoW world as its foundation and add new content, dungeons, raids, zones, and class changes — essentially, “what if Vanilla WoW kept getting updates?”
Think of it as an alternate timeline where Classic never stopped evolving.
The 2026 Roadmap: What We Know
Blizzard’s 2026 roadmap for WoW Classic is the most aggressive one yet:
- February 5: The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary launched globally
- Spring 2026: Mists of Pandaria Classic Phase 4 with scenario updates
- Summer 2026: Black Temple in TBC Anniversary & Siege of Orgrimmar / Timeless Isle in MoP
- Fall 2026: Sunwell Plateau in TBC — the final gear check of the expansion
- Late 2026: ??? — This is where Classic Plus is expected
The TBC Anniversary edition is being compressed into a single year — a clear signal that Blizzard wants to clear the slate for something bigger.
Why Everyone Thinks Classic Plus Is Coming
The biggest hint came during Blizzard’s latest content update presentation. Holly Longdale, the executive producer on WoW Classic, was about to reveal something for Classic fans when she was cut off mid-sentence with a “Holly, wait!” from off-screen.
This was widely interpreted as a deliberate tease — the kind of staged “oops” that marketing teams use to build hype. And it worked. The WoW community has been buzzing with speculation ever since.
Other clues pointing to Classic Plus:
- Season of Discovery (which ended in 2025) was essentially Blizzard’s testing ground for the Classic Plus concept — new runes, class changes, and reimagined raids
- Job postings for “unannounced Classic projects” at Blizzard
- The 2026 roadmap deliberately ends with a gap in the schedule — room for a major announcement
- Data miners have found references to “Classic 2.0” in recent game files
What Classic Plus Could Look Like
Based on what worked in Season of Discovery and community feedback, a potential Classic Plus could include:
- New raids and dungeons — Unfinished Vanilla zones like Hyjal, the Emerald Dream, and Uldum finally realized
- Class balance and new specs — Tank Shaman? Ranged Warlock? Blizzard has the data from SoD
- New battlegrounds and world PvP — Expanding on the Vanilla PvP system
- Profession overhauls — Making crafting meaningful again
- Player housing — The data shows players have already sunk 4 million hours into housing in Retail; bringing a version of it to Classic would be massive
What About Private Servers?
The private server scene has been running its own “Classic Plus” experiments for years — most notably Project Epoch and Turtle WoW. These projects have proven there’s massive demand for a Vanilla+ experience. Turtle WoW, for example, has added new races (High Elves, Goblins), new zones, and custom raids to the classic world, maintaining a healthy player base well into 2026.
If Blizzard announces an official Classic Plus in 2026, it’ll be a direct response to the success of these community-driven projects.
The Bottom Line
All signs point to a BlizzCon 2026 reveal for WoW Classic Plus. The roadmap is clearing the decks, the teasers are mounting, and the community appetite has never been higher.
If you’ve been waiting for a reason to come back to WoW Classic — 2026 might just be the year.
